School Based ABA Therapy
Toronto District School Board

Receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy at schools within the Toronto District School Board can offer several important advantages for children with autism, especially because it happens in the environment where many social, academic, and behavioral skills are used every day. Developing Minds ABA Therapy offers ABA for students within the Toronto District School Board as part of their pilot project for students with autism. .

1. Skills Promoting Independence Learned in a Real-Life Setting

When ABA therapy happens at school, children practice skills such as paying attention, asking for help and following rountines where they actually need them—in the classroom, on the playground, and during group activities. This helps skills transfer more easily to daily school life instead of only working in a clinic or at home. These skills support long-term independence in both academic and social settings.

2. Improved Social Skills With Peers

Schools provide natural opportunities to work on: turn-taking, sharing, communication and cooperative play.

ABA therapists in colloboration with Toronto District School Board staff can support social interactions in real time with classmates, which often makes learning these skills more meaningful.

3. Collaboration With Teachers

ABA therapy providers in Toronto can work closely with:

  • Classroom teachers & special education staff

  • ABA therapy at school can be closely aligned with a child’s IEP goals, helping ensure that behavioral and learning objectives are addressed in a coordinated way.

4. Early Intervention for Challenging Behaviors

When challenging behaviors occur at school, our supervised ABA therapists in Toronto can:

  • Identify triggers in the environment

  • Teach replacement behaviors

  • Support positive behavior plans

5. Reduced Scheduling Burdens

  • Minimizes lost instructional time

  • Reduces fatigue and stress from extra transitions
